To kick off a small gathering on April 19, 2013 to watch the film, renowned musician J. Reilly Lewis (founder and director of the Washington Bach Consort, and the Cathedral Choral Society) played through some pieces in the film from J.S. Bach's "Goldberg Variations."
Reilly's infectious love of J.S. Bach, and his encyclopedic knowledge of the theory and personal stories behind the BWV, made for a delightful prelude to the screening. His performance was superlative.
After the screening (and a German meal of kraut, potato salad and streusel), the audience talked about their own family histories, and their relationship to church heritage in the "new world."
